Job Overview:

Under the guidance of the VP, Manufacturing, the General Manager will be responsible for planning, directing, controlling and coordinating plant manufacturing operations. Provides leadership and develops leaders to create and implement plans to meet plant targets and objectives.  Responsible for and proactively drives efforts to continuously improve product cost, quality, delivery, workplace safety, employee engagement and operating efficiency.  Directly responsible for production teams, facilities and maintenance, manufacturing engineering, EHS and plant supply chain (scheduling, procurement, shipping/receiving, etc.).  Partners with business partners and indirect teams to support overall strategic direction of the Company.

 

Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To:

  • Proactively lead efforts to continually manage and drive improvements in safety, product delivery, quality, productivity, cost, and Team Member engagement.
  • Balance the day-to-day business needs while leading the organization toward long- term strategy and manufacturing excellence.
  • Ensures physical capacity, trained staff, and material availability to support demands.
  • Lead change management efforts, model effective change management principles.
  • Partners with Global Supply Chain Teams (Planning, Procurement, Logistics, Quality, and CI) to support current and future operational success.
  • Provide guidance to multi-functional New Product Introduction (NPI) teams to ensure timeliness of the product rollout and production start-up.
  • Actively participates as part of the Forestry MFG Operations team working with General Managers from all global manufacturing teams to set direction and make strategic improvements supporting global operational goals.
  • Oversee annual capital equipment plan to address production and facilities’ needs to drive increased productivity and support planned production goals.
  • Successfully lead Plant Management Team; set expectations and empower managers to lead their teams and reach plant goals.
  • Assist in planning the long-range direction of the plant by developing the production organization of the future and developing current and future leaders into a cohesive team.
  • Drives a culture of engagement and inclusion.
  • Communicates with all levels and functions of the Company.
  • Communicates Company strategic plans, manufacturing plans, goals and objectives with Team Members.

 

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Business, or similar course of study.  Master’s Degree preferred.

 

Qualifications & Skills Required:

  • 10 years’ experience in a production environment with at least 5 years of experience at the Manager level position, demonstrating organizational leadership experience.
  • In-depth understanding of manufacturing operations and methods associated with custom production, processing, and assembly of specialty metal parts.  
  • Broad range of knowledge including concepts and practical application in regulatory compliance (environmental, health, safety, labor, and business law), functional operations (multiple engineering disciplines, Finance, Human Resources, MIS, Production, OPEX, Tooling, etc.), and manufacturing principles (Lean, Quality Management, production flow, etc.).
  • Demonstrated skills in continuous learning, customer focus, quality commitment and good relationships with coworkers, customers and community are required.
  • Demonstrated decision making skills and ability to adapt to changing demands, resolve issues of the day, and maintain strategic direction.
  • Awareness of the significance and requirements of environmental, health, safety, labor laws, business contracts, customer liability, and ability to understand and work within Oregon Tool’s processes, such as internal controls, budgeting, capital appropriations, processing, limits of authority, compensation etc.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills; able to express oneself clearly and in technical and non-technical terms to teams of all levels and sizes.
  • Responsible for 24x7 operations; available to work on-site as required by job.
  • Limited domestic and international travel required.
