Provide leadership, project management and training related to physical asset build in the     department. Coordinate, prioritize, and schedule project activities.  Build new and rebuild existing machines to support Division and Portland metro needs and requirements. Assess new skills and techniques and incorporate into current job practices if applicable.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities, other duties maybe assigned as business needs determine:

 

  • Primary Task (55%) – Build & Operate
    • Assemble and detailing machine components.
    • Support engineering and general plant requirements of new assets.
    • Participate with Engineering and management in the development or purchase of new or prototype equipment.
    • Provide leadership, knowledge and expertise in regard to the build of new equipment focusing on safety, maintainability, reliability, operation, spare component availability and build.
    • Build new equipment to engineering specifications.
    • Operate surface grinders.
    • Operate mill, lathe, drill press, saws.
  • Second Task (30%) – Coordination, Documentation, & Support
  • Machine/part component scheduling and routing.
  • Participate in divisional communication.
  • Conduct departmental update/meetings on regular intervals.
  • Participate in Project Team activities.
  • Keep records of machine build/debug/ development.
  • SAP transactions.
  • Assist the Machine design Engineers in the creation, review and updating of all department-controlled documents.
  • Adhere to departmental documentation (i.e. PPS, POS and SOP).
  • Document results in department logs and charts.
  • Maintain OSHA procedures.
  • Assist and direct peers.
  • Support Technical trade division.
  • Provide technical assistance to design department.
  • Provide technical support and training for new employees, operators, apprentice, and peers; document their progress.
  • Practice teamwork methodologies.
  • Participate in hiring teams.
  • Provide expertise and participate in the development of briefs in regards to ergonomic improvements.
  • OCS group support and international travel may be required at times.
  • Third Task (15%) – Continuous Focus & Improvement
  • Assemble machine and operate.
  • Reduce non added value.
  • Participate with Engineering and management in the development or purchase of new or prototype equipment.
  • Promote a safe, clean, and well-organized workplace. To include personal work area and assigned manufacturing work area.
  • Use a computer-based system to capture labor hours.
  • Participate as an advocate for 6S activities.
  • Lead problem solving teams
  • Mentor employees in continuous improvement and problem-solving skills.
  • Implement improvement suggestions.
  • Apply TQC and lean principles and tools.

 

 

Communication and Documentation

  • Maintain open communication through conversation and both formal and informal documents

 

Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent or equivalent experience required
  • Completed an accredited Technical Trade Apprenticeship program/A.S. Manufacturing Technology or equivalent.

 

Knowledge & Experience:

  • Journeyman level Technical Trades or 8 years’ experience working in Technical trades.
     

Skills/Abilities:

  • Competent in machine build, tooling knowledge, and precision grinding.
  • Schedule workflow through machine processes.
  • Have a thorough understanding of the Assembly/production process.
  • Able to complete responsibilities in a timely, professional and quality manner
  • Solve problems analytically; search out relevant information and gauge its importance when making decisions
  • Effective written and oral communication skills; able to express oneself clearly and in technical and non-technical terms
  • Creative thinker
  • Collaborative and effective team player and able to work with teams who are globally dispersed
  • Set a good example of personal integrity
  • Demonstrate ability and willingness to learn; seek out development activities to improve skills and increase knowledge; learn from other team members and own mistakes

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Word, Excel) and data management software (SAP preferred)

 

Availability:

  • Available to work on site as required by job; eligible for domestic and international travel several times per year up to two weeks’ duration.
