HOW YOU MAKE AN IMPACT:
The Packaging Engineer will use technical expertise and analysis in packaging engineering to improve packaging solutions across multiple product lines including forestry, lawn and garden, replacement parts and accessories.

 

THE DETAILS:

  • Lead implementation of new and revised packaging through multiple locations.
  • Provides project teams with packaging reports, cost estimates and timelines.
  • Collaborate with Production, Quality, and Product teams to execute projects within timelines and required target delivery.
  • Recommends best practices based on industry standards, and market trends.
  • Determines appropriate packaging test methodology.
  • Is the global champion for packaging excellence.
  • Serves as Point of Contact for consulting on new designs, materials selection, processes, and suppliers.
  • Works with Quality to establish expectations for on-going testing.
  • Clear and consistent communication with production and procurement teams across 5 continents supporting a global manufacturing and distribution environment.
  • Maintain packaging standards including: quality, testing, verification, and qualification approval criteria.
  • Proficient use of project management and related tools.
  • Utilizes company specific data management tools including Excel, SAP, and others as needed.
  • Creates technical reports documenting product, process and performance criteria.
  • Provide written and verbal status reports on key tasks and proposals.
  • Presents technical presentations to internal/external stakeholders.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Packaging Engineering or equivalent discipline
  • 3 + years’ experience in packaging design and implementation.
  • 2D and 3D CAD experience (i.e. ArtiosCAD, Solidworks) 
  • Experience with high volume, global product distribution through multiple channels.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills; able to express oneself clearly and in appropriate terms for the target audience.
  • Knowledge of best practice and design for manufacturability as it relates to packaging and shipping.
  • Collaborative and effective team player able to work with globally dispersed teams.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Word, Excel) and data management software (SAP preferred)
  • Knowledge of various packaging materials: corrugated, paperboard, labels, adhesives, thermoformed plastics, paper pulp/molded fiber 
  • Understanding of Bills of Materials 
  • Understanding of structural packaging design and packaging assembly 
  • Understanding of packaging testing protocols (i.e. ISTA, ASTM) and how to apply to designed packaging solutions.
  • Experience with measurement tools and testing in a lab environment.

 

For individuals assigned and/or hired to work in Washington, Colorado, Nevada, California, New York, New Jersey, Rhode Island, and Connecticut, Oregon Tool is required by law to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. At Oregon Tool, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $90,000 to $120,000.
