HOW YOU MAKE AN IMPACT

As a Senior Product Development Engineer, you will lead the development of complex new product designs from architecture selection to product launch. Working with a cross-functional project team, you will leverage your experience with the NPD process and your technical skills to ensure that project cost/schedule/performance requirements are met, and risks are properly mitigated. This role also leads and supports technical research, development of new internal technical capabilities, and collection of voice of customer data. Effective communication skills, knowledge of manufacturing processes, and strong business acumen round out the skillset of a successful product development engineer.

 

THE DETAILS

  • Leads the technical execution of complex forestry and lawn & garden product development, from architecture selection to product launch with minimal supervision.

  • Plans and coordinates technical aspects of NPD projects including prototyping builds, testing and validation, design for manufacturing, technical design reviews, and 2D drawings and 3D CAD model creation.

  • Develops robust and cost-effective designs for high volume manufacturing using proven tools and methodologies such as HOQ1/2, DFMEA, Hazards Risk and Analysis, and DOEs.

  • Works collaboratively with cross-functional teams to ensure project success.

  • Leverages end-user and product application knowledge to support or lead the development of new analysis and test methods. Uses technical skills such as statistics, simulation, coding, and 3D modeling to advance our internal capabilities.

  • Provides engineering recommendations to internal and external customers, suppliers, and management. Effectively communicates with globally dispersed teams.

 

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering required, with a focus on design or mechanical engineering preferred.

  • Experience: 5+ years in product design engineering with a proven track record of leading all or most phases of product development projects; experience in designing metal components for high-volume manufacturing is highly valued.

  • Technical Proficiency: Skilled in 3D modeling and 2D drafting (SolidWorks preferred), geometric dimensioning & tolerancing (GDT), and statistical analysis. Demonstrates strong mechanical aptitude.

  • Problem-Solving & Communication: Excellent problem-solving skills for complex systems, strong written and oral communication abilities, and effective at fostering collaboration with globally dispersed teams.

  • Professional Attributes: Demonstrates adaptability, creativity, business acumen, and strong project management capabilities while maintaining professionalism and personal integrity across all levels of interaction.

  • Time management and organizational skills: Able to complete all projects and responsibilities in a timely and professional manner while maintaining quality.

  • Software: Proficiency in Minitab, MATLAB, Python / other coding language, and/or DFSS is preferred.

  • Strong willingness to learn and perform other tasks and duties as assigned

 

AVAILABILITY 

  • Available to work on site during assigned shift and eligible and available for domestic and international travel, as required by job.

 

For individuals assigned and/or hired to work in Washington, Colorado, Nevada, California, New York, New Jersey, Rhode Island, and Connecticut, Oregon Tool is required by law to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. At Oregon Tool, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $90,000 - $130,000.
